Match Action:

Alan Smith scored the goal

United completed the sixth game of their pre-season and took their tally to twenty-six goals scored and only one conceded. In this game they experimented with three central defenders. The only goal came in the twenty-eighth minute with a move started by Harry Kewell who gave Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink the chance to get in a low cross for Smith to finish the move off. Hasselbaink played a full game despite having lodged a transfer request the previous day. It proved to be his last game for Leeds. Michael Bridges replaced Alan Smith at Inside Right after an hour and McPhail replaced David Hopkin at Inside Left eight minutes later. There was a triple substitution in the eighty-fifth minute as Martin Hiden came on for Lucas Radebe in Central Defence, Gary Kelly took over at Left Back from Ian Harte and Alf-Inge Haaland came into midfield as a replacement for Lee Bowyer. Danny Mills gave way to Matthew Jones with three minutes on the clock and David Batty and Paul Robinson remained unused on the bench. The Referee was T. Parkes of Newcastle.
